VALS Survey

My primary VALS type was a Striver, and my secondary type was Achiever. The website says that I got this because of my dominant approach to life. This I do and do not agree with, because there are certain situations where I do feel as if I have a dominant outlook on something. There are also other times where I feel the complete opposite of that, so that would be why I wouldn't agree with that result. For the achiever aspect, I do agree with. I always try to put my full effort forward when it comes to any kind of work, because I want to be successful. This information may be used to appeal to me as a consumer because when it comes to goods and services, I normally would rather buy something rather than try to sell it or make a profit off of it.

The Medium is the Message

1) The medium proves to be the message in almost all of my media consumption. My smart phone has a huge impact on getting my media. Also, the internet directly affects my media consumption as well. The internet is one of the most dominant ways that I get my info.

2) My smart phone acts as an extension my body. I can get information, listen to music, watch videos, anything. The internet is right at my fingertips with my phone.

3) I engage in the global village by posting what is going on in my daily life on social networking sites such as Twitter or Facebook. I can also see what my friends are up to just by looking at those sites as well.

4) The media has a huge effect on me. I use it for a multitude of reasons, whether it is just figuring out what is going on in the world or what my friends are doing on a friday night. I would consider my self a structuralist because I don't feel that society NEEDS technology. You can live without being able to go on Twitter. I feel that people want a social network that they can use just as a another way to communicate.

Copyright & Copyleft

My stance on copyright is that I believe that it is a fair policy. Ones hard work should never be stolen. Take bands for example, if you always pirate a bands music, how do you expect them to keep making music if they make no money? It's almost a big slap in the face to the artists you enjoy. I for one enjoy buying CD's every so often. Having that hard copy in my hand is just what I like. My stance on copyleft is that I think that it is also fair. If you want to use another artists work for a project or whatever, as long as you give the artist the credit they deserve, I see nothing wrong with it. The sad part is that so many people are pirating others work that they are ruining the art in itself. I know for one that a ton of music stores have had to be shut down just because nobody wants to go buy cd's anymore. I know that I would never want someone to steal my work if I had put that much hard work into it.
